The Most Important Information in a Student Resume

Although there are many formats that you can choose in writing your student resume, the most important part is the content. Content is king as they say. The idea behind winning resumes is to highlight things about yourself that you feel will be needed in the job that you are applying for.

If you don’t have enough work experience yet, don’t put Work Experience or Employment Background as the first header in your resume. You can just write Experience and then list school activities both curricular and extra-curricular that you have organized or participated in which you think can show that you are responsible and that you can take the job that you are eyeing for.

For example, if you are the team leader of your club or if you lead a group of students in an outreach program, these are very good entries in your resume. This information will highlight the fact that you have good leadership skills. When did you show that you have leadership skills? When did you show that you are responsible and can be trusted?

Did you direct a play? Organized a book drive? Worked during summer? Volunteered for a cause? These are things that will make your resume impressive. Even if you don’t have work experience, the employer will consider your application because you have properly highlighted your skills.

Your resume is your first step in landing the job. The employer will look at it for a few seconds will know if you have what it takes for the job vacancy. You have to put the most important thing first which is a list of your skills and the activities that show your skills. This is what separates those resumes that go into the trash bins and stay on the employer’s desk top for the interview.
